White Granulated Sugar for Feeding Honey Bees

This white granulated sugar is intended for feeding honey bees as a supplemental carbohydrate source when natural nectar is unavailable. It is clean, dry sugar packaged in 50 lb bags and commonly used by beekeepers to make sugar syrup, sugar water, or dry feed.

Beekeepers use plain table sugar (pure sucrose) because it is easy for bees to digest and does not contain the trace minerals found in other sugars that can be harmful to bee colonies.

Feeding Sugar Syrup to Honey Bees

Beekeepers feed sugar syrup to support:

• Brood rearing in spring

• Colony growth and comb building

• Survival during nectar dearths

• Maintaining honey stores before winter

Common mixtures include:

• One part sugar to one part water (1:1) for spring feeding

• Two parts sugar to one part water (2:1) for fall feeding

Sugar syrup can be fed using jar feeders, top feeders, inner cover feeders, or other standard hive feeding methods.

This sugar is available:
