DESCRIPTION

EZPZ Brood Breaker Cage

Use the EZPZ brood breaker cage to time your varroa mite treatments with precision. By secluding the queen for 14–17 days, you create a natural brood break that leaves mites vulnerable—especially effective when followed by a full dose of oxalic acid vapor. This cage also doubles as a helpful tool during requeening, giving you flexibility in managing your colony.

Key Features and Benefits

Control mites and manage queens more effectively with this reusable, queen-safe cage.

  • Timed Brood Break: Isolate the queen for 14 to 17 days to disrupt the mite lifecycle.

  • Optimized Treatment Window: Apply oxalic acid 7 days after release—before new brood is capped—for full impact.

  • Dual Requeening Use: After brood break, pinch the old queen, wait one day, and introduce a new queen for easy acceptance.

  • Top Bar Mounting: Fits on the top bar of Langstroth frames—can be placed alone or within comb.

  • Worker-Friendly Access: Allows bees to care for and communicate with the queen while she’s contained.

  • Releasable and Cleanable: Unplug the front for a natural release; slide the back open for maintenance.

Usage Instructions

Place the queen inside and secure the cage to the top bar of a central brood frame. Keep her caged for 14 to 17 days to induce a brood break. After release, wait 7 days and apply oxalic acid vapor before the new brood is capped. For requeening, pinch the queen at release, wait 24 hours, and install a new caged queen.

Detailed Description

The EZPZ brood breaker cage offers a hands-off way to create an artificial brood break—one of the most effective non-chemical strategies against varroa mites. With the queen confined and workers able to feed her through the cage, brood production halts temporarily, exposing mites to a well-timed oxalic acid treatment.

Made from tough PETG plastic, this cage is built to endure hive conditions and be used across seasons. It can sit in a bare frame or be surrounded by a comb. Once the treatment window is complete, simply remove the front plug and the queen will walk out. For cleaning, the back panel slides open without disassembly.
